Get Inked! Motorola and T-Mobile Introduce the MOTORAZR - Miami Ink Collection

Motorola Teams up With TV’s Hottest Tattoo Artist to Produce Exclusive Designs for the MOTORAZR V3

Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) and T-Mobile announced today the upcoming nationwide availability of the MOTORAZR V3 - Miami Ink Collection, two hot new handsets featuring tattoo-inspired designs by Ami James, leading tattoo artist on TLC’s hit television series “Miami Ink.” Combining these ‘tattoos’ designed by the world-famous artist with the MOTORAZR’s award-winning slender form and multimedia features, the MOTORAZR - Miami Ink Collection offers T-Mobile consumers a new twist on the world’s best-selling mobile handset.

“From cool new materials to vibrant bursts of color, these new tattoo-etched phones let consumers express their individual style,” said Jim Wicks, vice president and director, Consumer Experience Design, Motorola. “With Ami’s unique and eye-catching designs, we are able to offer a device that truly is a lifestyle accessory.”

Two of Ami’s designs — MOTORAZR V3 in dark pearl gray with Dragon Tattoo and MOTORAZR V3 in magenta with Cherry Blossom Tattoo — are the first to become available globally from the MOTORAZR V3 - Miami Ink Collection — giving consumers ‘tattoo cool’ without the pain! Laser-etched onto the smooth brushed aluminum surface of the MOTORAZR V3, the tattoos turn the slim mobile device into a work of art.

“Our customers have come to expect exclusive, cutting-edge handsets from T-Mobile. These trend-setting Miami Ink Collection phones are sure to surpass those expectations, by screaming style and taking individuality to a new level,” said Michael Gallelli, head of product marketing, T-Mobile USA. “The dragon is an inspiring design that exudes energy and excitement, while the cherry blossom design radiates sophistication.”

“Drawing the tattoo designs for Motorola was an opportunity to bring my art to people everywhere,” said Ami James. “Now, people who aren’t into tattooing their bodies can get one on their phone instead.”

Beneath the engaging, edgy design of the MOTORAZR V3 - Miami Ink Collection lays the signature slender form of the MOTORAZR V3 with an impressive large-color display and bold sound quality. Including an integrated VGA camera with 4x digital zoom, the MOTORAZR V3 - Miami Ink Collection makes it easy to see, snap and share memories, while MPEG 4 video clips bring digital images to life in the palm of your hand. An array of communication options including quad-band world-phone technology, convenient picture caller ID and Bluetooth(R) technology* give users the ability to juggle work and play with ease.

Winds of change: The Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition - sensual by nature, intuitively beautiful by design

Nature-inspired soundtrack composed by ambient musical pioneer Brian Eno

Inspired by the forces of nature and the sculptural beauty of the body, Nokia today unveiled its latest premium mobile phone, the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition. Sensual by nature, intuitively beautiful by design, the Sirocco Edition’s signature feature is a thumbprint, which perfectly matches the human hand. The soundtrack of the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition was composed by the avant-garde musical pioneer Brian Eno, considered the “father of ambient music.”

The Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition draws its name from the powerful desert-born wind that originates in the Sahara when a warm, dry air mass collides with the cooler, maritime air of the Mediterrean. The striking organic shape of the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition references the inherent strength of the human form, a concept further implied by stainless steel polished surfaces and a scratch-resistant glass display window. Like its namesake, the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition consists of two variants - light and dark, the light inspired by the hot, dry air mass, the dark by the cooler, humid one.

And as it blows, the powerful sirocco makes its own unique sound - a composition from nature caused by two air masses colliding. With nature as his inspiration, Brian Eno, the world renowned music composer and ambient music innovator, has created a unique ’sonic texture’ that is organic, calm and highly evolved. It has an otherworldly feel - comprised of notes created by instruments that Eno has selected and ’synthesized’ himself.

The stainless steel case of the Sirocco Edition is treated in such a way as to give the device a unique sensual feel, which humanizes this natural masterpiece. Impeccable functionality is created through superlative craftsmanship, using techniques drawn from master watchmakers and jewellers. From the sapphire coating of the 262,000 colour display to the distinctive slide mechanism which reveals its 2 mega-pixel camera, or even its extended battery life, every seemingly minor detail of the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition is honed to perfection. The ergonomic keypad undulates like the glimmering dunes of the night desert, whilst the jewel-like navigation key shines like the brightest star in the darkest night. The Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition truly is unique, created out of the inherent beauty and chaos of nature and distilled into a modern form that is graceful, sympathetic and spare.

The Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition also features a complementary Bluetooth headset. This diminutive but distinctive wireless earpiece is also composed of stainless steel, and perfectly matches the nature-inspired Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition.

The BenQ-Siemens E71 is a shapely design mobile of the special kind: Its contours invite the user to touch it. The harmonious proportions without any sharp edges seem to caress the hand. The design idea was inspired by naturally fluid forms and took its cue from the elements: The round, soft design of the BenQ-Siemens E71 was modeled on fluid, floating metal. In accordance with this, a unique surface material was chosen for the E71: Thanks to an innovative non-stick coating of the color variant “Dark Silver”, fingerprints on the glossy surface are kept to a minimum. No matter how often you touch and handle this mobile, the high-gloss surface in a precious metallic finish remains radiant. The BenQ-Siemens E71 features not only exceptionally harmonious design but also high-value technology. An MP3 player offers mobile music entertainment, and the internal memory can be extended with interchangeable Micro-SD cards. Furthermore, an integrated FM radio allows you to enjoy even more music variety or the latest news while on the go. Data can be downloaded thanks to EDGE (depending on operator) in no time. The battery provides you with up to 400 minutes of listening pleasure thanks to the stereo headset included in delivery. Music and data can be transferred effortlessly between the mobile and your PC with the stylish SyncStation DSC-100 which also functions as a charger. If you want to share your favorite songs with friends, just plug the BenQ-Siemens E71 into your stereo system with the Music Cable IHM-100 whose power supply unit also works as a charger.

Spontaneous snapshots are a breeze with the E71 thanks to the integrated 1.3 megapixel camera with 5x digital zoom. The versatile mobile also records and plays video sequences in mpeg4 format. The brilliant QVGA display (262.144 colors, 320 x 240 pixels) provides outstanding visual impressions.

The harmonic design corresponds perfectly to the comfortable handling of the BenQ-Siemens E71. The keys are only slightly elevated beyond the smooth surface yet provide precise pressure. A central 5-way navigation key together with a clearly arranged user menu make the E71 easy and intuitive to use. Apart from a practical organizer for appointments, tasks and notes, the E71 also has a moon calendar, alarm clock and currency calculator on board, making this mobile your reliable everyday companion. Furthermore, the E71 doubles as a dictating machine, and the preinstalled games Sudoku and “Ice Age 2” offer fun and entertainment for every age group.

Plantronics’ New Line of Bluetooth Headsets Reflects “Body and Form” Design Philosophy

Designed Around the Human Form, the Next-Generation Plantronics Discovery and Explorer Headsets Provide Fashionable New Looks and Superior Sound Technology

Plantronics, Inc., (NYSE: PLT) today unveiled the latest products in its award-winning Discovery and Explorer lines of Bluetooth headsets. Plantronics announced the details of each product line at the Plantronics Design: Body & Form event in New York City, reflecting the company’s commitment to provide easy-to-use wireless headsets that embody excellent style, comfort and sound.

“Plantronics designs its products to effectively marry the intricacies of superior sound technology with fashionable design and comfort - and does so in a very small and elegant package,” said Renee Niemi, vice president of Mobile and Entertainment at Plantronics. “Our new lineup of Bluetooth headsets demonstrates this design philosophy and continues our legacy of providing consumers with reliable, intuitive and feature-rich products.”

Plantronics Discovery Family: Premium Styling and Sound Innovation The Plantronics Discovery 655 expands on the innovative design of previous Discovery headsets, featuring a new, fashionable look and comfortable ergonomic fit that complements the contours and lines of the human face. Weighing only 9 grams, the Discovery 655 also employs digital signal processing (DSP) to actively reduce background noise for crystal-clear conversations. The Discovery 655 includes a unique AAA charging pocket that provides up to 10 hours of talk time and a headset storage jacket with a vibrate ring indicator to offer a convenient way to charge, store and transport the headset. The headset also comes with a mini-USB adapter to charge from a PC or mobile phone power supply.

To give consumers more headset options, Plantronics also introduced the Discovery 640E, which reflects the design of the original Discovery 640 product and comes with fewer charging adapters at a reduced price. Meant for personal and professional use, the Discovery 655 and Discover 640E were designed with the tech-savvy, fashion-conscious consumer in mind.Plantronics Explorer Family: Convenience and Ease of Use Plantronics today also announced three new products under the Explorer headset line, aimed at first-time Bluetooth users. The new Explorer 330 reflects classic styling that fuses the freedom of wireless mobility with effortless call control. The Explorer 330 headset is easy to use and incorporates all call features - volume, answer/end call, last-number redial, and voice-activated dialing - into one single button.

The new Plantronics Explorer 340 and Explorer 350 feature new aggressive styling and multiple colors to provide consumers with more design options. For those customers needing a more flexible way to keep their headset charged, the Explorer 350 provides convenient in-car accessories for charging and stowing.

Putting Design First
Plantronics executives also announced details behind the company’s evolving industrial design philosophy, driven by the ever-present challenge that Plantronics has addressed in bringing new products to market: how to combine superior sound technology with the fashion standards of apparel, jewelry or eyewear. This delicate and complex challenge is unique to headsets, as they represent the only technology device that people actually wear on their faces.

“At Plantronics human anatomy is the canvas on which we create new products, which is very unique to the consumer electronics industry,” said Darrin Caddes, vice president of Corporate Design at Plantronics. “In many ways, we begin the design inspiration process by starting at the end: by examining where our final products will rest. If it doesn’t look good on the human body, it isn’t worth exploring.”

At the event, Caddes highlighted the four complementary elements that guide Plantronics’ design philosophy:

  • Behavior. “The physical, the cognitive, the social, and the cultural factors that define human style and behavior. Behavior inspires us to examine life through the users’ eyes.”
  • Body. “It is more than a factor in the design process, it is our canvas. We see the human form and its multitude of curves and lines as a landscape for symbiosis - the pure and perfect partnership between physiology, technology and fashion.”
  • Build. “This is technology as you’ve never seen it before, where inspiration, color, ergonomics, proportion and surface development reveal Plantronics’ competitive advantage.”
  • Beyond. “Creating new design paradigms. Anticipating customer needs before they exist. Plantronics constantly explores the realm of possibility for fashion and technology to stay on the cutting-edge and fulfill future customer desires.”

Samsung Unveils Unprecedented Product Portfolio at Consumer Electronics Show

Preview Reveals Breakthrough Technologies, New Designs for Samsung Phones in 2006

Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung) today debuted the full line of mobile handsets it expects to introduce in the first half of 2006 at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. This preview of wireless devices will give consumers a glimpse into a lifestyle where mobile phones truly serve as personal entertainment portals.

Samsung is showcasing more than 25 devices with advanced multimedia and imaging capabilities, handsets that will launch carrier services and new mobile TV technologies in 2006, and a portfolio of ultra slim phones that rivals any other on the market.

Entertainment on Demand
Samsung’s line-up of Entertainment on Demand (EOD) phones on display at CES — including the t809, a900, a920, a940, a950 and a970 — signifies that it is prepared to deliver in the mobile music and mobile multimedia arenas. These EOD phones, with features such as external stereo speakers for richer sound, full-color screens that resemble the look and feel of a high-definition TV and capabilities for over-the-air downloads of music and video content, are designed to give consumers the power to create their own brand of mobile entertainment.

As a testament to Samsung’s leadership in the EOD market, several wireless carriers have chosen to launch new Music and Video on Demand services with Samsung phones, including most recently the Sprint Music Store on the a940 and Verizon Wireless’ V CAST Music on the a950.

Industry Firsts
Emphasizing its legacy as a mobile handset innovator, Samsung will deliver phones in 2006 that are expected to launch some of the most advanced carrier services and technologies in the industry.

Samsung plans to be the first handset provider in North America to launch phones on the upcoming high-speed upgrades to the GSM network. The zx10, as the first Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) handset, and the zx20, as the first High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) phone, will both allow consumers to take advantage of multimedia downloads at broadband-like speeds.

Ultra Slim Designs
Samsung is addressing the current “thin is in” trend in the wireless industry with a diverse line-up of six new ultra slim phones that average slightly less than a half-inch thick, without compromising any premium multimedia capabilities. This robust slim phone portfolio is part of Samsung’s aggressive global strategy in the slim phone category, demonstrating how quickly and effectively Samsung can recognize and act on consumer demands.

The company’s slim phones — the A900, t809 and d807 designed for the North American market and the Z510, Z540 and P300 developed for the European market — combine features such as broadband-like download capabilities, Bluetooth(R) wireless technology and megapixel cameras and camcorders with innovative design elements, giving consumers a true mobile multimedia experience.

Technology Leadership
In addition to the slim phones designed for the European market, Samsung will be showcasing a host of its other global breakthrough technology and design products. At CES, Samsung will showcase the SPH-B4100, the world’s first dual DMB phone, enabling consumers to enjoy both S-DMB and T-DMB in one phone. Additionally, the company will demonstrate for the first time a handset developed for Qualcomm’s MediaFLO mobile broadcasting platform.

Samsung also will unveil the world’s first mobile WiMAX handset, the M8000, and be conducting demonstrations of the technology in its booth at CES.

The company continues to tout its leadership in the mobile imaging category by displaying the 8 megapixel camera phone announced earlier this year for the Korean market, and showcasing the “Serene” phone, a unique handset developed through a collaboration with Bang & Olufsen for the European market.

The Nokia E61 is designed in the familiar style of today’s most popular mobile email devices. Yet it is incredibly slim and packed with powerful new functionality. A cinch to use with either hand, the device has a four-way joystick and full keyboard combined with a wide 16 million color screen making mobile email easier than ever before. Supporting multiple mobile email clients like BlackBerry Connect, GoodLink, Nokia Business Center, Seven Mobile Mail, Seven Always-On Mail, and Visto Mobile, the Nokia E61 provides seamless and encrypted mobile connectivity. Full attachment handling (documents, spreadsheets, presentations, PDF viewer and ZIP manager) and an editing function (document, spreadsheet and presentation) are included. The Nokia E61 also includes the same advanced business call features and IP-based telephony functions as the Nokia E60 and Nokia E70. The Nokia E61 can send and receive emails, even when on a phone call. The Nokia E61 operates in GSM850/900/1800/1900 and WCDMA2100 networks.

The Nokia E70: The all-in-one messaging device
At first glance, the Nokia E70 looks like a modern smartphone. Open it up and find a full messaging keyboard for fast and easy thumb typing, a generous color screen for viewing emails, plus attachments (document, spreadsheet, presentation, PDF viewer and ZIP manager) and an editing function (document, spreadsheet, presentation) for staying up-to-date with the inbox. Like the Nokia E60 and Nokia E61, the Nokia E70 supports a common set of applications like advanced voice and email. Nokia will offer two versions of the Nokia E70 - one optimized for mobile networks in Europe and Asia (GSM900/1800/1900/WCDMA 2100) and one optimized for mobile networks in the Americas (GSM850/1800/1900), yet both versions are able to roam in GSM networks across regions.

Nokia also offers a comprehensive service portfolio for its business devices and solutions ranging from technical support to implementation, professional services and technical training. Nokia’s services are available to better serve customers and enable successful end-to-end mobility solutions.

Nokia Introduces Nokia 2652, fold design for new growth markets, Major milestone reached - one billionth Nokia mobile phone sold this summer

Expanding its wide range of elegant and affordable phones for consumers in emerging markets, Nokia today unveiled the Nokia 2652 phone. The stylish and functional Nokia 2652 fold model builds on the success of the award-winning Nokia 2650, adding two new design motifs, ‘Cell’ and ‘Fleur’ with dark gray and pearl white key mats for consumers to choose from. It is expected to be commercially available in October 2005 with an estimated retail price of 100 EUR before subsidies or taxes. The Nokia 2652 will be available in Europe, Middle East, Africa and the Greater China region.Mobile subscriptions hit 2 billion
While the global mobile subscription base has now reached the significant milestone of two billion mobile subscriptions worldwide, Nokia sees plenty of untapped opportunities and is committed to drive growth in new growth markets, like Brazil, Russia, India, China and countries in Africa. In these markets, affordability of mobile communications for subscribers is the key factor.
“We are working with operators to offer affordable phones and solutions that reduce the total cost of ownership of the handset and mobile services,” says Kai Öistämö, Senior Vice President, Mobile Phones, Nokia. “Nokia was the first vendor to focus on an extensive range of products and network solutions in fast growing markets, and we remain committed to introducing affordable, attractive phones with well-considered features and innovative network solutions to meet the communication needs of consumers in these markets.”
“It is equally important for us to work closely with government bodies to overcome possible barriers that are preventing forward momentum. With the right combination of mobile phones, network solutions, services and a regulated environment, we envision a mobile landscape where operators can profitably offer mobile services to a broader range of consumers for as little as USD 5 per month. When the cost of mobile services becomes this affordable, we foresee the growth curve in growth markets accelerating sharply,” adds Öistämö.

Nokia sells one billionth mobile phone
“The continued rapid growth in mobile subscriptions has exceeded even the mobile industry’s own estimates. Since the early 1990’s we have seen voice go truly wireless and mobile phones evolve from voice centric to feature driven devices. Earlier this summer, Nokia sold our one billionth mobile phone - a Nokia 1100 sold in Nigeria,” says Öistämö. “It will be new growth markets like Nigeria that will fuel the growth towards three billion subscribers by 2010.”
As the industry leader in mobile devices, Nokia has introduced hundreds of innovative mobile phone models since the early 1980’s. The company has manufactured mobile phones in high volumes since the beginning of 1990’s, when the first digital networks were introduced. In 1998, Nokia announced it had manufactured its 100 millionth mobile phone, and became the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturer. In 2004, Nokia was the clear market leader in mobile devices with volumes of 207 million units.
