Sprint announces Palm Treo Pro availability
Palm, Inc. and Sprint announced the upcoming availability of the Treo(TM) Pro smartphone for the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network on March 15.
Treo Pro will be available through all Sprint retail channels, including www.sprint.com/treopro, 1-800-SPRINT1 and Sprint retail stores, for $199.99 with a two-year subscriber agreement (after a $100 instant rebate and $100 mail-in rebate, with an Everything plan with data or a $30 per month or higher data add-on). Buying Mobile Applications
A survey of 235 US smartphone users who installed applications on their devices in 2008, conducted by ABI Research in November, reveals that a surprising 16.5% spent between $100 and $499. That level of spending is especially significant given the low cost of most mobile applications, ranging from as little as a dollar or two at Apple’s iPhone App Store, to at most about $25.
Those low App Store prices are one of the contentious issues discussed in a new global ABI Research study of mobile application storefronts.

Sprint Nextel to Reduce Labor Costs by $1.2 Billion
Sprint Nextel Corp. today announced that the company will take actions in the first quarter of 2009 to reduce internal and external labor costs by approximately $1.2 billion on an annualized basis. The actions include the elimination of approximately 8,000 positions within the company, which is expected to be largely completed by March 31. The positions to be eliminated will impact all levels of the company, and the impact on geographic locations will vary.
