Pantech Group, the leading Korean handset manufacturer, today has announced the launch of the IM-R200 handset, the latest dual-LCD sliding phone equipped with an OLED touch-sensitive screen.Separated from its main LCD display, the new phone does away with the standard keypad in favor of a brand-new LCD-typed keypad. When sliding up, the virtual keypad shows up on the LCD that is touch-sensitive, allowing users to dial numbers and view contacts with a stroke of a finger.

Chang Jin Park, Head of the Domestic Marketing Division, Pantech Group, said, “We are excited to launch an innovative touch screen slider, which is different from other touch screen phones on the market. The capacitive touch screen of the IM-R200 vibrates when pressed, to give the feel of a real buttons, sporting enhanced and unique sense of the entire phone.

The dual camera - a 2 mega-pixel camera and a VGA camera - mounted on the IM-R200 features face recognition function; it can recognize the shape of a face and automatically adjust it for the best look when shooting.

Other highlights include a 2.0-inch QVGA LCD with 260,000 colors for main display, a 1.6-inch OLED LCD with 260,000 colors for its keypad and 128 polyphonic ringtones. Also it has document viewer functionality, enabling users to scroll through the documents.

Pantech Group, the leading Korean handset manufacturer, has announced the launch of its IM-U170 handset, a slim phone fully wrapped with a metal case as part of its design innovation initiatives.
 
The new IM-U170 clamshell handset features enhanced both refinement and durability, coming in a full metal case made of magnesium. The metallic keypad - beamed with EL* light- is another addition to the simple and refined design of the phone, crowning the metallic touch of the phone.
The new handset provides a fresh and fun way to play an interactive game, which is the world’s first face-recognition mobile game in the industry. The built-in camera traces the movement of the user’s face to use for input instead of controllers. Users can have their real-time faces while playing games with the IM-U170.

Pantech Co., Ltd., Korea’s leading mobile phone manufacturer, announced today that its PG-1410 has been selected for one of the Christmas promotional packages by CTI Movil, the Argentine affiliate of American Movil - the largest mobile carrier in Latin America.
 
CTI Movil will launch a promotional event in time for the Christmas holidays, backed by one of Disney’s popular movies . For this event, CTI Movil has chosen Pantech’s PG-1410 and Nokia 3220 as a part of strategy to maximize its sales during the peak season for handset sales in Argentina.
 
Accordingly, Pantech will offer the limited special edition of PG-1410 until the end of December. The limited special packages wrapped with the poster image of come in a DVD of the movie and a variety of free-downloadable wireless contents such as wallpapers sourced from the movie.

The PG-1410, launched early this year, is one of the best selling bar-type camera phones. The slim handset mounted with a VGA camera features 75g in weight and 12.8 mm in thickness. More than 1 million units have been sold in Latin America since its first debut in the summer last year.
 
Pantech has become the sixth best-selling brand in Argentina since its first entry into the country late 2005. The company expects to reach up to 6 percent of market share in the Argentine mobile phone market by the end of 2006 and plans to expand its market share at least up to 10 percent by the end of 2007.

Pantech Group, the leading Korean handset manufacturer, has announced the launch of the IM-U160 handset, a new terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) handset that can be effectively used as a portable TV with its wide LCD screen.
 
The new IM-U160 includes a 2.6-inch wide QVGA LCD screen, ensuring the richest and most visually enhanced TV viewing experience for mobile phone users. It also features an aspect ratio - the ratio of the width of the LCD display screen to the height - of 15:9, considerably in advance of the 4:3 screen ratios usually offered by other mobile phones. In practice, users can now enjoy the same visual experience as in a movie theater.
 
The spokesman, Man Gi Kim of Pantech Group said, “With the release of such a handset, offering a truly portable TV viewing experience, we will be on the right track to take the lead in the Korean terrestrial DMB market, a market rapidly growing up since the service was launched in January 2006.”
 
The IM-U160 has a touch sensor keypad on its upper slide, which permits an easy and quick navigation. The touch sensor keypad can also vibrate when its surface is being touched, offering quite a unique feel. The visual experience can be further enhanced when using the accompanying stereo earphones to function as the TV’s antenna, or a separate TV antenna which can be combined with the handset if needed.
 
The IM-U160 features a large internal memory of up to 184MB, which can be further expanded with an external Micro SD card, thus ensuring a full use of its multimedia capabilities.
 
Other features include a 2 mega pixel camera with Auto Focus, delivering high-quality pictures, a PictBridge function, as well as an MP3 player.

Pantech to supply modern, stylish UMTS phones to Orange under Pantech brand

Plans to be a top five mobile phone brand in France by the end of 2008

Pantech Group, the leading Korean handset manufacturer, today announced that it has signed a landmark agreement with Orange - the second biggest mobile service carrier in Europe, - to supply branded UMTS phones in France.

The agreement with Orange, which is also the largest mobile service carrier in France, with around 23 million subscribers, marks Pantech’s first partnership with a Europe-based global mobile operator.

The new product which will be made available through Orange, - the U4000 - is a modern and stylish UMTS phone. It features a video telephony function incorporating a 1.3 mega pixel camera and VGA camera, a 1.9 inch 260,000 color TFT and 72 polyphonic ringtones. Other features include Bluetooth, a Micro SD card slot and an MP3 player.

Dennis Cheong, President, Pantech Europe, said: “This major partnership with Orange is an outstanding testament to the quality of Pantech’s advanced mobile handset technologies. More significantly, the agreement demonstrates our ongoing commitment to meet and exceed the expectations of our customers in Europe.”

Pantech targets increased share of fast growing Mexican handset market

The company plans to reach its total sales volumes of 1.3 million units

Pantech Group, one of the world’s fastest growing handset manufacturers, announced today the launch of five new handsets as part of plans to further build its share of the rapidly expanding mobile phone market in Latin America.

The five handsets will be made available through Telcel, the largest mobile service operator in Latin America. Pantech, which established a dedicated subsidiary in Mexico last year, plans to increase its share of the local market by expanding the range of Pantech models on offer to Mexican consumers.

Ji-Kwan Kim, President, Pantech Mobile Mexico, said: “Since last year, we have significantly built up our operations in Mexico, in line with the rising demand for handsets with advanced multimedia features. Today’s announcement is just the latest stage in our strategy to develop the Pantech brand in Mexico and to increase our presence in the region as a whole.”

Among the handsets to be introduced to the Mexican market is the award-winning PG-6200, Pantech’s newest fingerprint recognition mobile phone. Key features include a 2 megapixel camera supporting video clip recording and viewing, MP3 player functionality, and 20MB of user memory to store images and music files.

Earlier this year, the PG-6200 handset was honored at the prestigious iF (International Forum) Design Awards for excellence and innovation in the design of cellular phones.

The other new handsets include the PG-1310V, PG-1610, PG-3810 and PG-1810 phones. The PG-1310V is a clamshell style mobile phone with an exceptional range of applications for users, including a 1.5” 65K CSTN LCD, VGA CMOS camera, 40 polyphonic ringtones and voice scheduler. The PG-1610 slider phone is equipped with a 1.5” 65K CSTN LCD, VGA CMOS camera and speakerphone.

The clamshell style PG-3810 includes a 1.5” 260K main TFT LCD, 1.0” 260K sub TFT, VGA CMOS, and 64 polyphonic ringtones, while the PG-1810 clamshell phone has a 1.8” 260K main TFT LCD, 1.0” 65K CSTN, VGA CMOS and MP3 player.
