National Association of Broadcasters Show -- MobiTV, partnering with Sinclair and PBS revealed a vision for the future of mobile television, mixTV, at the National Association of Broadcasters Show (NAB).
mixTV is a potential business model for Mobile DTV, combining free Mobile DTV content with a subscription based 7-day window of on-demand programming. The mixTV demonstration opens multiple new monetization opportunities for broadcasters, mobile network operators and content providers while providing the most compelling user experience for consumers. MixTV also supports interactivity, audience measurement and dynamic ad insertion via mobile broadcast, or on-demand content over existing wireless networks.
"MobiTV, along with our outstanding partners Sinclair and PBS, are demonstrating a realistic business model
for the Mobile DTV ecosystem," said Kay Johansson, CTO, MobiTV. "We've seen great success with a subscriber-based business model delivering content over existing wireless networks, and this model shall evolve as new technologies become available. We are looking forward to working with our ecosystem partners to deliver on the promise of mixTV."
For the NAB Show demonstration, mixTV will feature a combination of Mobile DTV from PBS (KLVX) and the CW (KVCW), with a seven-day library of all previously broadcast content available on-demand over Mobile WiMAX.
"We are committed to developing realistic business models for the mobile space. It has been a pleasure to build this together with MobiTV in the development of the mixTV concept," said David Amy, EVP/CFO Sinclair.
The mixTV model also enables a more personal, relevant user experience while providing highly targeted opportunities for advertisers.
"PBS is committed to being everywhere viewers want to access programming, and to supporting the development of new ways to provide public service. The mixTV model offers some viable options to provide Mobile TV services to the public in an exciting, sustainable way," said Andrew Russell, Senior Vice President, PBS Ventures.
mixTV is being demonstrated in the Mobile DTV Pavilion in the Rhode & Schwartz booth at the National Association of Broadcasters Show taking place at the Las Vegas Convention Center, April 20 - April 23.
